If it seems impossible for Asheville to get any funkier, then come to West Asheville, where immense growth and impressive transformation has happened over the last 20 years! It has become one of Asheville’s most eclectic and creative neighborhoods. This area encompasses everything on the west side of the French Broad River, where you can float while taking in the incredible graffiti and converted artists warehouses of the River Arts District, before you stop off at New Belgium Brewing to cool off with a beer. Up the hill from the river, on Haywood Road (the main 2 mile drag in West Asheville), you’ll find dozens of burgeoning shop fronts filled with friendly visitors and residents who love this culturally diverse community.
The houses in West Asheville trend towards one level bungalows from the early 1900’s, which pay homage to the working class history of this area. In line with West Asheville’s creative vibe, you’ll also find many green built and modern homes from builders associated with the Green Built Alliance.
Our favorite spot, Dobra Tea, is owned by a dear friend of ours. We often go there to grab a specialty tea drink, scrumptious vegan fair, and delightful locally made medicine balls made by friends who own Silvermoon Chocolates. Sunny Point Cafe, Biscuit Head, and Itto Ramen are all popular favs as well.
Feeling bold? Get tattooed by our good friends Richard Lamos at Bliss Tattoo or Billy Mizejewski at Heron Mark, then have an alphabiotics session with Dylan Ayer at the Point Health Collective to balance your energy and thrive at your optimum!
Explore the Burton Street Community with Dewayne from Hood Huggers Tours, where you’ll learn about the diverse past, present, and future of the historically African American community of Burton Street and where you’ll explore the peace garden.
West Asheville is located just 5 minutes from downtown, across the River, and feels like a whole ‘nother world!
