Located just 20 minutes East of Asheville, Black Mountain is an adorable town nestled right in the mountains. It has 6 or 7 blocks with shopping and restaurants. The town is invitingly walkable and a popular stop for street festivals and small business shopping excursions.
There are some quaint streets to stroll while looking at beautiful bungalows and houses in a variety of styles. Uber cute!
White Horse Black Mountain features music from regional artists in a cozy atmosphere. Milton’s inside the Monte Vista Hotel has incredible food and service, and a cozy back patio for drinks. Stop by the Trailhead Restaurant for a burger after visiting Lake Tomahawk, which is where the locals go to get their exercise. It has a walking trail, pavilion, fishing, swimming, and ducks!
Catawba Falls is just over the mountains East of Black Mountain and there is even closer hiking at the neighboring town of Montreat which has a college, conference center, and town all combined into one with no traffic light!
Head South on Rt 9 out of town for 30 minutes, crossing magical mountains and water, to reach EarthHaven EcoVillage, which is an intentional community with about 75 full time residents on a picturesque 320 acre off-the-grid village. Loop back into Chimney Rock on the way back into Asheville.
