Planting Seeds in Asheville this Spring Equinox

Spring is here. Scientifically speaking, the spring equinox is the time of the year when the day and the night are equal length. It only happens twice, during spring and fall. This time the balance heralds the return of life as flowers begin to bloom. It is also the halfway point between winter and summer solstice. Traditions all over the world celebrate the triumph of life over death.

We are blessed here in the mountains of Western North Carolina because we have all four seasons.  Each one is distinct. And, the spring and fall are the longest and most vibrant seasons. Now, as we’re starting to shake off the sluggishness of winter.

Spring is a great time to think about your next steps.  Are you just deciding to move to the Asheville area? Or maybe you want to transition from renting to owning.  Or maybe you want to buy a second home or an investment property. Perhaps you are considering selling your current house and moving somewhere else, or downsizing?

Winter is a time of hibernation and going inward, for nature and for us. It’s hard to get motivated when the weather is cold, even here in the southern Appalachian Mountains. But there’s a promise that comes with spring, and that generally gets buyers and sellers motivated!

Let’s take a look at some of the things to consider this spring when you’re looking to buy a new home, or sell your existing house. .

Start the Season Fresh

Spring hits just before the height of buying season, so you may be able to find a great deal now before summertime rolls along. Sellers will be more motivated since don’t want their homes to stay on the market for months as the season ramps up.

Spring is also a good time to see the property as it truly is. Landscaping can cover a lot of possible problems. Before the leaves have fully obscured the home, you can see a lot of things you might miss in the summer.

Western North Carolina is an incredible place to establish roots. It’s a great place to buy a primary home where can relax in the mountains and take on a slower pace of life. Traditional single-family homes aren’t the only thing available in our communities.

There are some options for creative buyers as well.

  • Short Term Rentals. AirBnB or VRBO are more popular than ever. There are regulations surrounding how homeowners can rent spaces within the city of Asheville, and short-term property rentals aren’t going anywhere. Being a responsible short-term rental owner can enhance the community and the experiences of those who visit WNC.
  • Long Term Rentals. There are also challenges here for pathways to affordable housing. You can help the community by investing in rental opportunities for other local residents. Long-term rental properties are a great way to become responsibly involved in the community, while generating extra income.
  • Second Homes. Of course, we can’t overlook the benefits of buying a second home in Asheville. A second home here is a great investment and something you will find yourself coming back to again and again. In the future, it may become your retirement home as you seek a slower pace of life in the mountains.
